Freeform Silver

Unique One-of-a-Kind Melted Silver Creations

Unique shapes result from using a torch to melt pieces of fine and sterling silver into designs that form as the molten silver flows making its own statement.

I add and subtract fine and sterling silver, while guiding the flow to complete my vision of the spontaneous design. The pieces used and inspiration for the design of each piece are freeform. Each is one of a kind.

My idea for this design series occurred when I was making a silver necklace and noticed the pile of cut silver sparkling on the table. Curved pieces of chain overlapped each other making a design for a pendant.  I decided to combine the pieces by fusing the silver. The melted silver flowed in all directions. After experimenting with this method, I was able to guide the silver enough to create pendants.

Random patterns develop as the silver flows inspiring the creation of freeform pieces. Designing freeform pieces has become my favorite method of jewelry creation.

Sometimes the silver from sterling melts down to reveal a copper core in sections adding interest in color. Some pieces are smoother due to the source silver pieces used; some are rougher, some sparkle more and some are shinier than others. These pieces are creative and elegant but at the same time have a rustic look and feel.
